Kamal-ol-Molk (Mohammad Ghaffari) was the most celebrated Iranian painter of the modern era and the founder of the Tehran School of Fine Arts. Appointed court painter to Naser al-Din Shah, he created extraordinarily detailed realist paintings that combined European academic technique with Persian subject matter. His work marked the turning point between traditional Persian miniature painting and Western-influenced Iranian modernism.
