Titian (Tiziano Vecellio) was the leading Venetian painter of the 16th century and one of the greatest figures of Western art. A master of color and atmosphere, he was equally brilliant as a portraitist, mythological painter, and creator of altarpieces. His long, productive career spanned more than 60 years, and his later, loose brushwork influenced generations of painters including Rubens, Van Dyck, and Velázquez.
